RDV 2017 Race 2. Part 1. The Race South. Your adventure begins in Sines, famous for being the birth place of the explorer Vasco de Gama, the first European to reach India by Sea. Leaving Sines in a glorious parade of sail on Labour Day, we race south for the Canary Islands, making our way down the coast of Portugal and North West Africa.

Your adventure begins in Sines, famous for being the birthplace of the explorer Vasco da Gama, the first European to reach India by sea.  Sines, on the Southwest coast of Portugal is located in one of the most preserved regions of the European coast, with great beaches, dunes, streams, moors and regions of mountains.  Leaving Sines in a glorious Parade of Sail on Labour Day we race south for the Canary Islands, making our way down the coast of Portugal and North West Africa.

Nearest Airport: Lisbon Portela Airport. (161km)

Sines is not served by a train service but you can take a bus from Lisbon to Sines, for around £10.

For EU citizens, Canadians, Australians and USA residents, a VISA is not required.


Las Palmas

Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria, one of Spain's Canary Islands off the Northwest coast of Africa.  When the boat arrives in Las Palmas you will have one night on board in port before transferring to your hotel for the remainder of your stay.  As the boat is racing from Sines, you could have 2-3 days in your hotel, giving you time to explore Las Palmas and the Island of Gran Canaria.  A representative from Maybe Sailing will be on hand to answer questions and ensure you make it to the hotel.
